Le Bakery runs out of a modest storefront on Oak Street, and the shop makes no attempt at grandeur — a glass pastry case up front, a handful of tables, and a line that regularly spills out the door on weekend mornings. Only a handful of customers are let in at a time, so much of the experience happens on the sidewalk waiting your turn, watching the case fill back up as trays come out of the kitchen. It's unmistakably a working bakery first and a café second: the smell of fresh bread and simmering broth reaches the sidewalk before you're even through the door.

Order a banh mi — the Lemongrass Pork and the Vietnamese Sausage are the two locals ask for by name — and add a pastry for the road, since the case rotates cherry cream cheese turnovers, raspberry danishes, and chocolate croissants depending on the day. The French bread and rolls, baked fresh throughout the day, are the backbone of everything else on the menu and worth buying a loaf of on your way out. Le Bakery is worth the wait, and Biloxi seems to agree — this is a place locals will drive across town for rather than settle for something closer. The banh mi alone justifies the stop, and the pastry case does the rest of the convincing. Go early on a weekend if you want a full selection and a shorter line; by mid-afternoon the case starts thinning out. It's not a leisurely breakfast spot, but as a grab-and-go bakery, it's one of the best on the Coast.
