Siren Social Club

Siren Social Club

A tropical speakeasy inside Hotel Vela with handmade pasta, a raw bar and beef Wellington, listed in the 2025 Michelin Guide American South.

Atmosphere

The entrance is the first surprise. Siren Social Club sits inside Hotel Vela in downtown Gulfport, tucked behind a door that opens onto a dining room and bar dressed in tropical wallpaper, with a back bar lit like a jewelry case. The Michelin Guide says the place dares to be different, and the setting backs that up. Chef Austin Sumrall runs the kitchen with his wife, Tresse, and the drinks lean tiki, with wine and spirits alongside. It is dark, intimate and a little theatrical. This is date-night territory, not a stop in flip-flops after the beach.

What to Order

The kitchen calls its food refined European, and the pasta is the center of it. The menu has included handmade pastas and house-made ravioli in vodka sauce, plus beef Wellington and pan-seared scallops from the Michelin write-up, and onion soup on the restaurant's own description. There is an extensive raw bar for starters. Menus turn over, so ask what is on now. Michelin puts the price at three dollar signs, which fits a night with cocktails, a pasta and a shared plate. Pair a raw bar order with one of the house cocktails, then decide how far to go on entrees.

Good to Know

Siren is open Tuesday through Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 5 to 10 p.m., closed Sunday and Monday, according to Michelin. Hours can change, so check before you go. Reservations are taken online through sirensocial.com, and booking ahead is the easy way to avoid a wasted trip on a weekend night. The restaurant is inside the hotel at 24th Avenue, so look for Hotel Vela rather than a street sign. Review counts are still small and opinions are mixed, with a few guests describing a rough night, so expect a young restaurant still settling in.

Our Take

Siren is the most ambitious dinner in downtown Gulfport and the one to book when you want the evening to feel like an occasion. The pasta and the setting are the reasons to go, and the Michelin listing gives it credibility, though a few early diners have had uneven visits. Reserve a table for a Friday or Saturday, arrive hungry, and order the pasta.
