TrainTastic is Gulfport's model train museum, and it backs up the "world's largest" title it claims — 50,000 square feet of layouts, a nearly two-million-piece LEGO railroad, and a climber kids beg to come back to. It grew out of the old Mississippi Coast Model Railroad Museum, a hobbyist club that started at Gautier's Singing River Mall in 1990, before the Mueller family, of RPM Pizza and Domino's fame, built this much bigger home on Pass Road.
Getting There
TrainTastic sits on Pass Road in Gulfport, about 15 minutes inland from the Highway 90 casino strip in Biloxi. Head west on Pass Road, or take I-110 north to I-10 west and cut down through Gulfport, and you'll spot the building's train-themed signage before you reach the lot. Parking is free and right at the front door, so there's no hunting for street spots with a stroller in tow. Beachfront guests should budget 20 to 25 minutes each way in normal traffic, longer during Cruisin' the Coast week.
What to Expect
The scale catches most first-time visitors off guard. Past the entrance Pullman car sits a room-sized model of the Mississippi Gulf Coast with more than 50 local landmarks in miniature — casinos, the lighthouse, the beach itself — running on tracks in every gauge from garden-scale down to N. Off to one side is a LEGO railroad built from nearly two million bricks, billed as the largest in the region. Kid-sized train cars from different eras, including a mail car, a dining car, and a caboose, turn a history lesson into something you can climb inside. The multi-story climber, with its ramps, nets, tunnels, and slides, is built for the under-12 crowd.

Hours shift with the season, so check traintastic.com before you drive over — summer hours run Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $16.50 for adults, $12.50 for kids 3 to 17, and free for age 2 and under; seniors and active military save a couple dollars with valid ID. Buying tickets online in advance skips the counter line on busy weekends. Planning a birthday? Ask about the three party rooms — they book out weeks ahead in summer.

TrainTastic backs up its "world's largest" claim better than most attractions that make one — 50,000 square feet is a lot of ground, and the Gulf Coast layout alone is worth the ticket for anyone who grew up around here. It leans hard toward families with young kids, thanks to the climber and play wing, so train buffs without kids in tow might prefer a weekday morning before the school groups arrive. Budget at least two hours; you'll use them.
